Ten yeasts were isolated from samples obtained from the degradation of wood called "Palo podrido". The yeasts were isolated and identified from the sequencing of the ITS fragment. The phylogenetic analysis identified three strains of basidiomycetes of the genera Rhodotorula, Cryptococcus, and Leucosporidium and seven strains of ascomycetes of the genera Candida, Sugiyamaella, and Spencermartinsiella. Carbohydrate assimilation studies were carried out, and none of the isolated strains could assimilate starch; all strains assimilated glucose and xylose.
